Nairit Sarkar offers coping tips for CAT in times of CoVid-19
The pandemic had delayed CAT 2020; the announcement
that the test has been shortened has added to the unpredictability. Nairit
Sarkar cleared CAT in 2018 with an outstanding score. “The officials haven’t
made the pattern clear but hopefully the number of questions will be reduced.
Candidates will also be wondering whether to wait for CAT 2021 and let go of a
year,” the IMI B student comments before offering coping tips to deal with the
unprecedented circumstances of the year. Excerpts:
- “CAT tests your mental ability as much as aptitude skills. The syllabus might look unmanageable but it really isn’t as difficult as it appears. It is a test of patience, stress and time management; don’t feel overwhelmed,” adds Nairit.
- Leading up to the test, I’d suggest study when you are rested. Studying five hours a day when rested can be more productive than 15 hours when you are tired. I could only give 6 hours a week to studies because I was also working then.
- In the last month, I don’t think it’s a good idea to study something new. You should focus your energy on revising topics and taking mock tests. It’s also important to play games or be involved in any relaxing activity of your choice to reduce stress.
These strategies worked for me in CAT 2018, but then there was the big decision
of choosing the B School. I picked IMI Bhubaneswar because undoubtedly it has a
significantly higher RoI compared to other B Schools at this level.
I love being on the peaceful green campus, tucked away from the city. IMI B is
completely student-driven, which helps us get enough professional experience
before entering the corporate world. We learn to perform under high-pressure
situations every day,” he concludes.
