FDP hosted by IMI Bhubaneswar highlights the role of Emotional Intelligence in the new business environment
The week-long online Faculty Development Program on Emotional Intelligence
hosted by IMI Bhubaneswar received an overwhelming response from participants
around the country. Held between 18th and 22nd January,
the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Atal Academy sponsored
FDP highlighted the significance of emotional intelligence as the key to the
performance of business personnel, through various sessions held by experts
from the industry and academia.
With the advent of Industry 4.0, it
has become evident that business professionals with the ability to manage
interpersonal relationships effectively will be in demand in the dynamic
new-age workforce. The FDP was curated with sessions that were designed to help
train professionals manage interpersonal relationships through emotional
intelligence. With Prof. Bindu Chhabra and Prof.
Pallavi Pandey of IMI Bhubaneswar at the helm, the FDP began in the right vein
through an ice-breaking session that set the tone for engaging discussions to
follow.
Prof. Ramesh Behl,
Director, IMI Bhubaneswar outlined the importance of Emotional Intelligence of
academicians as he said, “Empathy towards students is very important. Trying to
understand the emotions of the learners on the other side is crucial too.”
Sessions were conducted on the importance of emotional intelligence at the workplace
and leading with emotional intelligence that had key takeaways for
participants. The online sessions peppered with video presentations talked
about the relevance of EI, its different aspects and so much more.
The FDP covered various areas that
affect interpersonal relationships including anger and negative emotions. One
of the eye-opening moments was when Prof. Rohit Vishal Kumar in his session on
‘Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Emotional
Intelligence’ said, “People are much more than their behaviour; they behave differently in different situations.” It was
a takeaway that all participants could not only relate to but will also do well
to remember in their professional interactions in the future.
Role of Emotional
Intelligence in Design Thinking, Persuasive Skills, Non-violent Communications,
Building Effective Teams, and Time Management were some of the engrossing
sessions that were held during the FDP. Interestingly, one of the sessions -
‘Stress Management’ saw Mr Vijay Nalgirkar talk about
gaining emotional intelligence through Sahaj Yoga. As Prof. Kapil Pandla said
in his session, “Information alone isn’t enough to convince or teach. How you
deliver information matters.” It was also evident in the FDP that remained
interactive, and ended with a feedback session and assessment tests, thus
offering an engaging and valuable learning experience to all participants.
