IMI Bhubaneswar puts the spotlight on Quality Teaching and Research with its Short Term Training Programme
The Short Term Training Programme (STTP) on Quality Teaching and Research organized by IMI Bhubaneswar was a resounding success with all participants. They had joined the AICTE sponsored programme held from 11th to 16th January with much enthusiasm and vigour to learn about new age pedagogies. The aim of the programme was to equip faculty members with skills to enable effective communications in classrooms and enhance student engagement. At the end of the programme, the participants walked away with insights and tools to accomplish that goal.
Prof. Ramesh Behl,
Professor, Director, IMI Bhubaneswar set the tone for discussions to follow by
outlining the desired outcomes of the endeavour. He highlighted the
significance of adapting innovative pedagogies while staying rooted in research
as he said, “A perfect teacher is one who has a blend of both; the passion to
teach and the love for research.” The B School, one of the top PGDM Institutes
in India, prides itself on its strong faculty team. The richly experienced
faculty members held centerstage in sessions covering varied topics, offering
crucial insights to participants.
The session on Teaching Pedagogy & Best Practices in Teaching saw
engrossing discussions as participants expressed their opinions and had their
queries answered. Sessions on Case Studies as an integral mode of learning
received tremendous feedback. Prof. Rahul Gupta Chowdhury shed light on the
Simulation method of Teaching using MarkStrat. What made the sessions truly
invaluable was that they offered participants actual tips and tools like
Sonites and Vodites, which are widely used in the education sector.
The STTP also scored by asserting
the importance of understanding different learning styles and enhancing the classroom engagement of students. After all, the best teaching practices would
be in vain if faculty members didn’t realize that different students have their
varied needs and pace of learning too. Participants also benefited from the
session on creating effective presentations for the classroom, which is a must-have skill for all faculty members. There was an animated discussion about
animation tricks that can be employed to good effect for presentations.
Quality teaching cannot be separated
from the research process, which is also integral to the learning experience
for students. The STTP addressed the research problems right to their core
while helping participants figure out ways to formulate questions, hypotheses
and designs. There were sessions conducted to take faculty members through the
steps ranging from data sources, retrieval tools, and research metrics to
writing manuscripts for publications in International journals and referencing.
Finally, the participants were assessed on their learnings and had the platform
to offer their feedback on the detailed and comprehensive programme that had
many takeaways.
