How IMI Bhubaneswar’s student-driven campus gave Prateek Chawla the drive to keep growing and bag the Director’s Medal
The setting: A campus of the students, by the students, for the students (hat tip Mr Lincoln)
The supporting cast: Batch mates and faculty members as a constant source of support
The Director’s Medal for Overall Contribution to the Institution goes to Prateek Chawla - PGDM, Class of 2020.
That’s the powerful potential of the encouraging ecosystem created by the student-driven campus at IMI Bhubaneswar. It was on this campus that student Prateek Chawla stepped onto two years ago with some trepidation. Through research projects and his involvement with the Students Placement Committee, he not only emerged as a medal winner of the batch but has also transformed into a well-rounded professional ready to take on the corporate world.
Realizing the stakes that were involved in picking the right B School for his MBA journey, Prateek did his homework. He reveals that speaking to students and alumni of management institutes is a good indicator of the experience you get. His research brought him to IMI Bhubaneswar where the experience surpassed his expectations. “First thing I realized was that a management degree is not just about management knowledge but developing yourself too,” he says candidly.
It led Prateek to numerous co-curricular activities and balancing them with his academic commitments. While he was enhancing his professional skills set with research projects, he was also actively involved with the Students Placement Committee. “The research projects helped me delve deeper into different areas of my interest. The experience with the committee also enhanced by professional skills due to constant interactions with industry experts,” he adds.
As a member of the committee, Prateek was responsible for coordinating several cultural events and academic conferences. Taking ownership of the responsibility helped boost his personal and professional growth as he says, “As the placement committee members are responsible for smooth functioning of the entire industry interaction, my role developed my leadership skills. It has been a phenomenal learning experience that boosted my confidence too.”
There was another reward for his efforts on the graduation day where Prateek had already bagged a distinction. He also won the Director’s Medal for Overall Contribution to the Institution. He plays it down as he credits his batch mates and faculty members for their support. “The student-driven campus is a fascinating concept that leads to overall growth. Top-class infrastructure, interactive classrooms, and the industry sessions enabled my growth and prepared me for the professional world,” he says, raring to go and make his mark in the corporate world.
